Open House Thessaloniki 2016

Open House is one of the major international institutions for the promotion of architecture, and this year Open House Thessaloniki is on Nov 19-20.

Open House Worldwide is the responsible body for the communication and promotion of the Open House events globally.

The idea started in London in 1992, and it has now spread to many cities in the world by acquiring regular guests and supporters. Open House invites people to explore and understand the value of architecture and the buildings that constitute the environment we live in.

Thessaloniki is the first Greek city that hosted Open House. Since 2012, Open House Thessaloniki takes place every autumn.

For a weekend every year, public and private buildings open their gates to the public for free and the city turns into a big museum, buildings and architecture being the exhibits. This year, famous Thessaloniki landmarks, museums, neoclassical buildings, schools, offices and other buildings open their gates in November 19-20!

Open House Thessaloniki is based on volunteering. The volunteers realize the project completely the days it lasts. The responsibilities that they have to take are: welcoming the public, touring, escorting the groups, product promotion, photography/video recording.

OPEN BOX is the information point of OPEN HOUSE THESSALONIKI and operates the week before the event in a city’s central point. There you can gather information concerning the event and its program, get relevant products, take pictures with the volunteers…
From the OPEN BOX, participants in the event and journalists receive their priority passes, participants in the parallel events their tickets and volunteers their T-shirts and relevant material.
